The Haven Community Centre is one of the largest and most diverse expressions of community service to be found in The Salvation Army in the UK. A dedicated team of 30+ staff and over 100 volunteers help to ensure that the wide range of services provided are relevant to, and supportive of the local community, and of high quality.

The Good Neighbours Befriending Service The Good Neighbours scheme is a befriending and support service intended for vulnerable adults and carers who suffer the effects of social and emotional isolation. The scheme operates in the city of Portsmouth.
The scheme is able to support individuals with short term and longer term support needs though emphasis is placed on helping individuals to re-able back into the community and to regain their independence.
We are looking for reliable, enthusiastic volunteers to help as Volunteer Befrienders working in the community. It is important that you have the following understanding, skills and experience to undertake the role:
Understanding of loneliness and how this can impact upon an individual
The ability to listen and empathise
Good communication skills
Caring nature and reliable
Can be completed from work, at home or on the move
