The Curtis Museum in Alton is home to one of the finest local history collections in Hampshire, exploring 100 million years of the region’s past. Permanent exhibitions include a rare Roman enamel cup, ancient Saxon burials, hop picking and brewing, Cranford author Elizabeth Gaskell, the 1643 Battle of Alton - with a Civil War era helmet, breastplate and sword - and the notorious tale of Sweet Fanny Adams.
The Allen Gallery is an intimate setting for one of the south’s most outstanding collections of ceramics. The gallery hosts an impressive and varied selection of pottery, porcelain and tiles dating from 1250 to the present day.
As the very important first point of contact for visitors to the Curtis Museum & Allen Gallery, you will greet them at reception, gift shop and coffee shop with a friendly smile. You will also be museum guides, passing on info about the town and surrounding area, handling objects and bringing history alive for our visitors.
Help in keeping the Allen Gallery garden looking lovely would be appreciated if you have green fingers, including looking after the pots and baskets. Help at events by working behind the scenes, or being in the think of it, from music to talks, themed evenings to daytime activities – there are all sorts of possibilities.
