Hand in Hand Volunteer

Our new wellbeing service is aimed at supporting older, vulnerable people in Winchester to live independently for longer.

Your role as a volunteer is to work alongside our Wellbeing Co-ordinators to help deliver all aspects of the service.  This is what you could get involved in:

  • Monitoring our Hand in Hand database of services, events and activities
  • Working alongside our Wellbeing Co-ordinators to meet and greet new members of the service and produce Living Well Plans
  • Visit members in their own homes, befriending and building relationships with them
  • Accompanying members on a local walk
  • Take and or go to social events with a Scheme Member
  • If you drive and are willing, take the Scheme Member shopping or to appointments
  • Offer telephone support to a Scheme Member

  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Able to keep and understand the importance of record keeping
  • Acceptable numeracy and literacy skills
  • Able to show compassion and understand for others
  • Has an understanding of the issues and concerns facing the elderly and those who live alone
  • Has knowledge of Winchester community and the surrounding areas

Skills which are not essential but are an advantage:

  • IT skills and an understanding of Word and Excel
  • IT skills in relation to accessing the internet and finding information
  • Able to drive and has a clean driving licence (only for those volunteers who want to support people to appointments or going out)

Availability Details

At this time the volunteers will be working during the week Monday to Friday. However we will need to say that this may need to be flexible in the future according to the needs of the Scheme Members using the service. But if they are unable to be a volunteer outside of the Monday to Fridays hours we would not match them to that user
