Come and join us on the Starlit Trail. This 5k evening walk takes place on Friday 20th September 2019 in Winchester City Centre.
We're hoping this will be a sponsored walk with difference where walkers
will enjoy illuminated landmarks and pockets of live entertainment along
We are looking for the following volunteers:
Our course marshalls are instrumental in ensuring that walkers stay on the
correct route and complete the course safely. Marshals will be required to
show walkers the right way to go and may also accompany some of our
performers to make sure they stay safe while performing. We’d love our
marshals to add to the feel of the event and get into the spirit of the
Starlit Trail by wearing something starry, bringing music or carrying fairy
lights! You’ll be based at important route sections along the course.
You’ll need bags of enthusiasm and good communication to encourage walkers!
It’s the job of the lead walker to guide everyone around the course safely,
as well as offering friendly support. The lead walker stays at the front of
the group and works together with course marshals and the event managers to
report on the progress of the group.
The tail walker follows the group making sure that all our walkers complete
the course safely, as well as offering friendly words of encouragement. The
tail walker will always stay behind the last walker and works together with
course marshals and the event managers to report on the progress of the
group. They’ll also help clear the route by collecting signage along the
Start and finish area assistants
We are looking for volunteers to help set up the start/finish area at the
Guildhall. We’re also looking for volunteers to welcome our walkers at the
very start of the event and celebrate with them when they return at the
end. This role varies but would entail tasks such as looking after
registration, handing out route maps or helping to serve drinks and nibbles
at the end.
Our supporters love meeting Wolly the Lion – the Wessex Cancer Trust
Mascot. This fun role involves dressing up as Wolly, waving, shaking hands
and interacting with people. This role will be based at the Guildhall but
will also be out on the route (accompanied by a member of staff or
volunteer) in one of our performance areas to meet the walkers at they go
We'd love to capture our event forever in the form of fab photographs of
our walkers, volunteers, performers and the beautiful city of Winchester.
This would be a great opportunity for anyone looking to create a portfolio
of images or for anyone who loves to take pictures as a hobby!
No particular skills required. Just enthusiasm and be friendly and approachable.
