Director of Volunteer HR and Training

Solent Credit Union is a co-operative organisation, owned by its members and governed by a board of directors (also volunteers) who are elected by the other members.  While we have a few part-time staff, volunteering is vital to us.  

We are looking for someone to oversee our office and manage HR issues, to handle volunteer recruitment, and to ensure staff and volunteers have established training plans.

 What is the role?

  • The Director of Volunteer HR and Training will have responsibility for the following areas of the business:
  • Oversight of our main office in Southampton, managing HR issues
  •  Working with the Board to redefine the role of the volunteer
  •  Volunteer recruitment
  •   Ensuring training plans are established and followed for staff and volunteers

Skills

We are looking for someone who has experience in HR management. 

The position is suitable either for someone who is mid-career, looking to gain experience at board/executive level, or for someone who is retired or semi-retired. What is most important is that they can understand the objectives of the credit union and have time available to contribute towards its future.

Availability Details

Board meetings (maximum two hours) are held each month in Southampton, and clearly there are preparation and action requirements. Board members participate in planning and running the organisation. Much of our work can be done remotely by email and phone, so it should be possible for someone in full-time work to participate with a bit of time-flexing. Commitments vary, but four hours a week would probably be the minimum needed.
