New wellbeing cafe launches; supporting older people in the community

29 March 2016

Community First and Friarsgate Practice are launching a new Wellness and Wellbeing Cafe to support patients.  This social prescribing service will support frail patients to access community based services on offer from local charities and community groups.

header_logoSocial prescribing provides a way of linking patients with non-medical support in the community, including opportunities for physical activity, learning new skills, making friends, as well as support with issues like housing.   It helps those with long-term conditions and encourages and improves self-care. It extends the GP’s range of tools, and provides an alternative to a drug prescription.

The the wellbeing cafe clinic will run on Wednesday mornings and is aimed at older and frail patients who may benefit from the help and support on offer from local community support. Marc Dryden, Practice Manager said  the cafe “will [offer patients] a one-stop shop effectively, where we can look after all their needs.” In addition to the community services on offer patients will be able to see a GP or Nurse and access the full range of clinical services in one place ensuring patients get the most appropriate support available.

If you would like to be involved in supporting this initiative you can volunteer with this project here.
